February 2022

Governor "WooWoo's" Message

"Together, we make amazing things happen!"

Did you know that February 23 is the anniversary of the very first Rotary meeting?  It was held on February 23, 1905, in Chicago, Illinois.  February 23 is now designated as World Understanding and Peace Day promoting "understanding and goodwill as essential for world peace."

But, the 23rd is not the only day for advancing peace; the entire month of February is designated as Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month.  Every Rotarian should take the opportunity to plan and promote our Fourth Avenue of Service within their circle of influence in support of Rotary's continued quest to promote goodwill, peace and understanding among all world citizens.

Promoting goodwill, peace and understanding can take many directions.  Recently, our Club Presidents were invited to give an update on their club's goals and service projects during my MidYear check-ins.  For me as your honored CEEO, these meets were  educational, uplifting, inspiring and nothing short of amazing!!  To hear about the creative ways our District clubs and members have answered the call for support within your local communities and beyond leaves me speechless.  When reflecting upon what our clubs are doing with local and worldwide service projects which are indeed a part of building peace, I feel proud of our efforts to help others in need.  Thank you all!

American and Canadian Rotarians are blessed with many resources.  Your service projects enable us to share the wealth with those less fortunate.  Our District is available to support those projects.  I encourage all clubs to attend the upcoming Grant Seminar on February 26 and to consider applying for a District Grant to expand a local service project.  You might also consider adding an international/global project to your club’s resume to increase your service reach.

February is an important month for Rotarians who will continue to engage in service projects that support peace -- it’s also my birthday month, WooWoo!!  Having the opportunity to serve our District is a wonderful gift that all of you have given me.  I am so grateful for your enthusiastic support!  This year my focus is on our Rotary District 6380 Clubs and members as we continue to find ways to adapt and re-create ourselves while continuing to grow our District.  I urge you all to continue to Engage, Excite and HAVE FUN – WooWoo!!
