Basic Education and Literacy month brings a vast array of opportunities to Increase our Impact, Expand our Reach, Enhance Participant Engagement and Increase our Ability to Adapt. These four pillars of the Rotary Action Plan remind us that as we support basic education and literacy in local and global communities, we increase our impact by fostering opportunities for lifelong learning. Whether it’s donating books and computers, building schools, honoring the most improved students, or creating teacher training programs, Rotarians are making measurable and impactful change.
We expand our reach by tapping into new opportunities with community organizations and non- profits (https://www.duttonfarm.org/, https://sharedetroit.org/, https://wacpfgh.org/, and https://casacolibri.org/about-us/. We enhance participant engagement through the gift of inspirational participant-centered educational opportunities for both children and adults. Delivering on these opportunities, whether new or not, may require a new lens through which we recognize potential pathways for growth. Crucial to these opportunities are teachers, the Magic Makers.
As we recognize the gifts of Basic Education and Literacy this month, thank a teacher, honor a teacher, and need I suggest: Share the Gift of Rotary with a teacher! I hope you, too, have had a special teacher, like Ms. Snyder, whose middle school language classes sparked my curiosity about world cultures. Light bulbs, Wheels Turning, and Deep Learning. Thank you for all the ways in which you bring hope to others through investing in Basic
Education and Literacy.
