Horse's Haven
On Saturday, September 22, many Livingston Sunrise Rotary members participated in the annual Horses Haven work day. It was truly a perfect day to be outside painting and beautifying the grounds of the 22-acre rescue. Horse's Haven cares for horses, ponies, donkeys and any other large animal in need and, when appropriate, find them new homes in a caring humane environment so that they never have to suffer inhumane treatment again. The Rotary message of “service above self” was continued by the volunteers that attended.

World Medical Relief

On Saturday, August 18, Livingston Sunrise members Don Nicholson, Jamie Nicholson, Mark Jaffray, Nelson Edwards, Mark Robinson and Pam House participated in the World Medical Relief workday in Southfield, Michigan.

World Medical is a nonprofit group that collects unused medical equipment and supplies from local hospitals and medical facilities. Items are then sorted, packaged and shipped to those in need around the world. Our work group took part in these sorting and packaging efforts in a truly hands-on work experience.

Our members were joined in this labor of love by Mary Sloan and Jeff Lichty from Clarkston Rotary, Lois and Lee Halsted Hartland Rotary, Gerry Jackson of Motorcycling Rotarians, Terrance McNaughton Chatham Rotary, Jennifer and Barry White Blenheim Rotary, and April Edwards and Joycelyn Macolm-Carr from Southfield Rotary; a truly district-wide activity.
A second workday is planned for Saturday, December 1. We hope you will consider joining us.

Midnight in the Tropics
On September 21, club members took part in passionately speaking about the nonprofits that they had nominated to be beneficiaries at our Midnight in the Tropics event. They spoke to their significant contributions to this community. The club had to pick three out of the 14 very deserving nonprofits that were nominated. Last year the event raised almost $100,000. This year the beneficiaries are Reaching Higher, Midcourse Correction, and The Torch. Save the date of February 23, 2019 for a tropical fun evening. More to come.
