The 6380 District Governor’s “Tour”, has begun for Mike and I. The end of July marks 3 President’s nights, 7 club visits, a sector meeting and an online meeting with newest club, the Motorcycling Rotarians. We have reconnected with many Rotary friends and made new friends along the way. I am heartened by all of what you are doing for the world and your communities. August is Membership month. What does that mean to us? It could be time to look at our clubs and decide if we are content with the way things are, or do we need to work at growth and retention of our members.
We've been in the IT consulting business for over 30 years and have "reinvented" our company many times. Comfortable, not always, Beneficial, almost always. Have the new ideas to serve our customers worked? More did than not, some not so much and some of the changes weren't comfortable.
So what's this have to do with your club? Well, pretty much everything. New members will have different ideas on how they fit into Your Rotary Club. How can we attract, mentor, engage and retain our members? Get your ASK in gear and find out what they expect out of Rotary. Work with them to open the path for a rewarding and engaging service and fellowship experience.
Recently I heard the term "cultural humility". To me, this means I can learn from people who have had experiences and lives that are different from my own. Could this be the essence of “Service above Self"?
Let’s be willing to look at new ways of attracting people to Rotary and particularly your own club. It’s the best deal out there!
