Announcing the New RAG for Peace Great Lakes Chapter

You may recall – and many of you attended – the 2017 World Peace Conference at the Michigan League in Ann Arbor, co-convened by Ashish Sarkar and Rosemarie Rowney.  Two Peace in the Streets conferences at Wayne State followed in 2018 and 2019. Then came COVID, during which event organizers began to collaborate with more peacebuilders in Districts 6400 (Detroit area) and 6600 (Northwestern Ohio).  Together this tri-district group held a few virtual events and became known as Taking Action for Peace (TAFP).

In the past 3 years TAFP has presented a number of online webinars and two in-person conferences at Henry Ford College – one on human trafficking and the other on gun safety.

Our next event will center on “Critical Thinking for Creative Solutions”, a program recognizing and nurturing critical thinking and reasoning that can:  • Solve challenges

• Seize opportunities   • Embrace change   • Enrich life   • Discern truth   • Serve humanity’s needs.  Based on a successful series of Rotary-initiated programs in the Toledo area, our newest project was brought to us by our member Chuck Stocking, 6400 PDG.

On May 24, 2025Taking Action for Peace was officially chartered as the Great Lakes Chapter of the Rotary Action Group for Peace (RAGFP).  We became the 13th RAGFP Chapter in the world, and our new organization encompasses members from three Rotary Districts led by Therese Maggioncalda DGN District 6400, Marcia Lane 6380, and Chuck Stocking PDG 6600.  Past RI President Gordon McInally welcomed us at the virtual launch on May 24.  Clubs in District 6290 have already expressed interest in joining the Chapter, and all clubs in our Zone are welcome.

The Great Lakes Chapter is looking for new members!  If you’re interested or would like more information, contact Marcia Lane at mlane0407@gmail.com or 734-395-4428.
